Compared to other European countries Italy has a low level of English, which has resulted in a high demand for English teachers over the years.

Also, if you’re looking for a job over the summer months then Italy is an ideal place to find work in summer schools.

Spain

For those interested in living and working as an EFL teacher in Spain, you will be glad to know that demand is very high for English language teachers year-round and you are likely to be offered a TEFL position soon after completing your TEFL Certification course with Global Language Training. China

With the largest TEFL jobs market in the world – meaning the demand for teachers in the country is massive – China has to take the top spot for 2019-2020. There are just so many reasons to teach there aside from the competitive wages and benefit packages offered to first-time EFL teachers.

Culturally and geographically diverse, China is an exciting country for teachers to explore during their time off – and with train travel being very cheap, you’re able to get around the country easily.

Newly-qualified EFL teachers can expect to earn between 10,000-18,000 RMB (£1,100–2,000) per month and many positions include attractive benefits such as accommodation, flight reimbursement, paid holidays, and more. Combined with a low cost of living, teachers can live comfortably and travel well within the country and beyond.

Online

The online tutoring industry has been growing rapidly – from being worth $11.8 billion in 2012 to an estimated $103 billion in 2018 – and it’s showing no sign of slowing down. There’s a lot of work out there for those seeking to teach online and for the more entrepreneurial it can be a very lucrative business.

Whether you’re just looking for a side-job to supplement your income, wanting to test out if teaching is really for you, or are aiming to make a serious career out of online teaching, there are plenty of opportunities to suit everyone.

Vietnam

Vietnam continues to be a popular choice for EFL teachers and new positions are always being posted over on our TEFL Jobs Centre. Teachers typically work 15 to 25 hours a week in Vietnam and, due to the low living costs, you can earn well enough to enjoy your time in the country as well as saving a bit as well. It’s also a fantastic base for exploring the rest of Southeast Asia!

South Korea

South Korea’s strong teaching market has long offered lucrative opportunities for entry-level EFL teachers, who can expect to earn between 1.9 to 2.4 million won (£1,300 – 1,650) as well as being provided with free accommodation and flight reimbursement.

Opportunities can be found in public schools with the government-run EPIK scheme and private language schools, hagwons, of which there are around 100,000 in the country. Hagwons have had a reputation over the years for bad conditions – the situation is definitely improving and there are plenty of great employers out there.
